Self Portrait, 2010

Syd London holds a deep reverence for the potential power of the photographic image. Her passion is story telling of subcultures that are often ignored, misunderstood or mis-portrayed. She strives to communicate the visceral moments of what is ultimately a shared human experience.

Currently Syd is Brooklyn based, working as a photographer and photojournalist. She is a regular contributing photographer to Time Out NY, Curve Magazine and the Village Voice. Presently Syd’s photographs are traveling in 2 separate exhibits: The Invisible Project, Syd’s photo documentary and solo show, traveling the United States and appearing in 3 U.S. State Houses. And NYC In FOCUS, vol. 2, a group photo exhibit traveling the 5 buroughs of New York City. In 2011 the not for profit organization Queers for Economic Justice invited Syd to become their official photographer and documentarian, work Syd is particularly passionate about. In 2010 Riot Grrrl Inc invited Syd to join their roster of artists as RGI’s first photographer. In 2009 Syd was the featured artist in the gallery show Judged For Sex at Hi Christina! in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Slide show installations have been seen from Manhattan to Rome. Syd continues to develop independent projects and documentaries.

Syd has been published in Time Out NY, The Village Voice, The NY Times Magazine, AOL’s Spinner.com, am NEW YORK, Curve Magazine, The Leslie/Lohman’s Gay Art Foundation’s Archive, GO Magazine, Ourchart, Autostraddle and Dapper Q to name a few.
